Blue 5000
25 September 2007 | old blue, photoshop, web comic | No Responses
I once dreamt about turning Old Blue into a robot. Here’s my concept drawing of that dream. Blue 5000 has a cameo in the latest page of ButterHead, which I recently finished. My drawing skills are coming along nicely with Photoshop and the Wacom tablet, but I’ve got a long way to go before I’m where I want to be. Distant challenging goals are sweet, and drawing is fun. One day I’ll have enough drawings for Jaybill to make a new site just for ‘em. Until then I’ve got each page here.

If there’s one good thing that has come out of this broken arm, it has been learning Photoshop. The past few weeks I’ve spent countless sunny hours sucking up this program like a blood starved creature of the night. When I wasn’t drawing or compositing, I’ve been reading web comics, which inspired me to start drawing my own. Now I have another way to express my love of food; by chronicling the misadventures of a hero whose head is made of butter. I’ve posted the second page here on mrjeffmccarthy.com for my loyal readers to enjoy. Maybe one day I’ll enough content to start another site exclusively for all my cool drawings. With this cast coming off on Wedsnesday, and me hopefully going back to work, I’ll only be able to play around with the computer alot less.

It’s a simple equation:
Simpsonizeme.com + Google Images + Photoshop= 10 hrs. closer to getting this god forsaken cast off my arm.
Simpsonize!!

The level of energy that goes into something like this is just staggering. Burger King and our favorite show ever have teamed up to show everybody just how easy it is to get in your head. A friend of mine told me he had recieved an email with a drawing of himself, as a Simpsons character. He was a little freaked out. Most of us probably mentally or verbally reference The Simpsons two or three times a week. It’s a true cutural icon. And now you can be more American than you ever dreamed! Simpsonize!!
Personally, I was a little dissapointed in my Simpsons doppelganger, but I did come to a stark realization. They will get you. The combination of media that screams at you everywhere, everyday, is futile to ignore. And nothing is sacred. If they wanted you to…you would eat a greasy egg in a dirty ashtray, the whole time thinking about Mickey Mouse. Clearly, when the machines take over, it will be advertising that is used to control us.

Adam vs. Alton
28 August 2007 | broken arm, people, photoshop | No Responses

The striking similarities between these two nerds can no longer go unnoticed. Both star in popular television shows. Both use science to explain heady subjects. Both have obsessive fans. Both are theatrical showmen with nerdy spectacles. This raises several questions for me. Are theses two geeks long lost brothers, seperated at birth, only to grow into supernerds in thier respective fields? And if so, will they ever reunite to become a dynamic-duo of nerdiness? Most importantly, who would win in a fight? C’mon Adam…C’mon Alton…it’s so obvious…sign up for celebrity deathmatch already.
Here’s The Pitch. It’s becoming an itch.

Look, I learned the intricate ways of photoshop and brought forth the ultimate image! Actually this is a real conversation that I witnessed between my dog and my brother’s cat. They often converse in speech bubbles that can only be read with a universal translator. Don’t go looking for intelligent thought here. All you’ll find are salmonberries.
This not the greatest blog in the world…

This is just a tribute to it’s creator, Jaybill. Without his technical expertise and understanding patience, mrjeffmccarthy.com would just be a big pile of cyber-wishes. So thanks brother, for helping me get this site off the ground, it has been a huge source of entertainment as well as an alleviation of boredom during a hard time. I don’t think I’ll be winning any Photoshop contests with this one, but at least Jaybill is one step closer to his life-long dream of being black. You can check out real pictures of my friends and family in my new photo gallery, called Cool People.
